Israel Moves Closer to Cashless Society Following Latest Legislation

A new Israeli law will go into effect on Monday prohibiting cash payments of over $1,760 (6,000 New Israeli Shekel NIS) in cash or bank checks for transactions between a person and a business. The ceiling for transfers between private individuals will be $4,400 (NIS 15,000) instead of the current amount, almost $14,700.

Since January 2019, Israeli businesses and consumers have been subject to limits on cash payments under the Law for the Reduction in the Use of Cash. Previously, the use of cash up to $3,200 could be used in business deals. The ceiling for car transfers will remain the same at nearly $14,700.

The reason behind the new law was explained by Tamar Bracha, who is in charge of executing the law on behalf of Israel’s Tax Authority, to The Media Line. Source: Israel365

100,000 Americans died in a single year from Drug Overdoses for first time in U.S. history

Lawmakers and prosecutors may be under addressing the opioid crisis, specifically with regards to illegal fentanyl. The past stigma of over-policing recreational drugs and drug users may be partially to blame for this policy blind spot, but unless things change this crisis may only get worse.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that for the 12-month period ending in April 2021, over 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses for the first time ever.

This grim new milestone has unfortunately been slowly building, as America has seen a twentyfold increase in the opioid death rate between the years 1990 and 2020. Source: Law Enforcement Today

Study Predicts More Than a Quarter of US Abortion Clinics Will Close if Supreme Court Strikes Down ‘Roe’

A new study finds that more than a quarter of the 790 abortion facilities across the United States would close if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade decision, the case that legalized abortion nationwide.

As CBN News reported last month, a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito indicates that the court may be preparing to strike down the Roe decision that made abortion a constitutional right in America, according to a Politico report.

Thirteen states have trigger laws in place that would prohibit abortion should Roe be overturned by the high court in a decision expected at the end of the month, which would shift the issue to the state legislatures. Source: CBN News
