As detailed in a new study published on April 3, 2025, in Geophysical Research Letters, researchers recorded a surge of heat in Jupiter’s upper atmosphere, rising to a staggering 500°C, after a stream of solar wind crushed the gas giant’s magnetic shield. The findings not only challenge assumptions about the resilience of gas giants but also offer a model for how similar events might affect Earth’s atmosphere and technology.

The event under investigation dates back to 2017, when a dense burst of solar wind hit Jupiter, causing a rapid compression of its magnetosphere—the massive magnetic bubble that normally shields the planet from charged particles. This marked the first time scientists have captured and analyzed such an atmospheric response on any outer planet.

By combining data from NASA’s Juno spacecraft, the Keck Observatory, and solar wind modeling, researchers were able to link the magnetospheric compression to a planet-wide heat anomaly. Then there’s their behavior: the angelic exuberance puppies exhibit in the presence of humans—trotting up for hugs, belly rubs, kisses—is completely absent. They keep their distance, retreating if a person approaches. Even one of the handlers who raised them from birth can get only so close before Romulus and Remus flinch and retreat. This isn’t domestic canine behavior, this is wild lupine behavior: the pups are wolves. Not only that, they’re dire wolves—which means they have cause to be lonely.

The dire wolf once roamed an American range that extended as far south as Venezuela and as far north as Canada, but not a single one has been seen in over 10,000 years, when the species went extinct. Plenty of dire wolf remains have been discovered across the Americas, however, and that presented an opportunity for a company named Colossal Biosciences.

Relying on deft genetic engineering and ancient, preserved DNA, Colossal scientists deciphered the dire wolf genome, rewrote the genetic code of the common gray wolf to match it, and, using domestic dogs as surrogate mothers, brought Romulus, Remus, and their sister, 2-month-old Khaleesi, into the world during three separate births last fall and this winter—effectively for the first time de-extincting a line of beasts whose live gene pool long ago vanished. During a visit to the intelligence unit on Sunday, Katz presented transcripts of conversations obtained from the tunnels of senior Hamas leaders in Gaza, showing a clear connection between Iran and key Hamas figures Yahya Sinwar and Muhammad Deif.

The intercepted documents reveal that Sinwar and Deif demanded $500 million from the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. The funds were requested to further Hamas’ campaign against Israel and its struggle against the United States. Despite Iran’s difficult economic situation, the head of the Palestinian branch of the Revolutionary Guards, Izadi, agreed to the request, emphasizing that Iran would continue to provide financial support to Hamas because the fight against Israel and the US is Tehran’s top priority. Hamas has previously claimed that 70% of casualties have been women and children, a claim no longer reflected in their recently updated lists, according to the research. Approximately 72% of fatalities are aged 13-55 and are men – the demographic category aligns with Hamas combatants.

(Worthy Insights) – On Sunday morning, March 23rd, a Russian drone approached the Emmanuel Church compound in Kyiv. It exploded 20 meters from a modular home housing Alexandra, her husband, Oleksandr, and their five-year-old daughter, Nicole.

Pasha Tupchyk, one of the church pastors, explained the house is used, “For people who need sleep and to stay in church. It’s for ministry and something like that. (There was) an explosion, big explosion (that) damaged this house in seconds.”
