State abortion amendments get mixed results as millions voted on ballot measures across the country

(Worthy Insights) – Abortion amendments that were a major focus of Democratic campaigns this cycle saw mixed results Tuesday with one of the prime targets, Florida, narrowly rejecting a ballot measure that would have overturned the state’s six week abortion ban.

The Florida result, the first of election night, fell short of the required 60% threshold in the increasingly Republican state, dooming the initiative and handing another victory to Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis and the pro-life movement.

The rejection of the amendment followed GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s 13-point victory, improving on his statewide performance in 2020. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Florida ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana fails

(Worthy Insights) – A ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana in the state of Florida is projected to fall short, according to Decision Desk HQ, although medicinal use is still legal in the Sunshine State.

Florida Amendment 3 would have allowed adults aged 21 and older to possess, purchase and use marijuana for nonmedical consumption. Per state law, a 60 percent supermajority was required for the amendment to pass.

Medicinal cannabis use was legalized in Florida back in 2016 after an amendment passed with a 71 percent approval rating. Under that amendment, possession is limited to 3 ounces. The amendment would not have changed the possession limits or other restrictions regarding marijuana use in the state constitution. [ Source (Read More…) ]

‘God of chaos’ asteroid may be transformed by tremors and landslides during 2029 flyby of Earth, study finds

(Worthy Insights) – Landslides and tremors may transform the asteroid Apophis during its 2029 brush with Earth, according to a new study.

Named after Apep, the ancient Egyptian god of chaos, Apophis is a 1,100-foot-long (340 meters), peanut-shaped asteroid. Although an impact with a space rock that size wouldn’t annihilate our planet, it could easily destroy a city.

When Apophis was discovered in 2004, astronomers calculated that it could pass extremely close to Earth in 2029. More detailed observations in 2021 allowed scientists to determine Apophis’ path with greater accuracy, revealing that it had a smaller chance of hitting Earth than researchers initially estimated. At present, Apophis is predicted to sail as close as 20,000 miles (32,000 kilometers) to Earth on April 13, 2029, bringing it closer than some artificial satellites. [ Source (Read More…) ]

With eyes on winning war, building third Jewish Temple, Ark replica shown in Jerusalem

(Worthy Insights) – A replica of the Ark of the Covenant, painstakingly constructed, its creators say, to the Torah specifications of the sacred vessel that was the First Temple’s central fixture, was displayed in Jerusalem on Sunday evening, during the intermediate days of the Sukkot holiday.

The ark described in the Torah, which housed the Ten Commandments tablets among other holy objects, was hidden after the destruction of the First Temple, per rabbinic tradition. At Jerusalem’s King David Hotel, the replica shown in the hotel’s sukkah contained a refurbished Torah scroll, which survived the Holocaust, from Thessaloniki, Greece.

Several members of the Knesset and Israeli activists were on hand at the hotel for an event and festive meal—a stop on the replica’s journey retracing the steps of the biblical prototype. [ Source (Read More…) ]

In Barna’s recently released researched report, Beyond the Porn Phenomenon, produced in partnership with Pure Desire Ministries, researchers found that pornography use is so prevalent among all demographics and the gap in use among Christians and non-Christians, as well as men and women, has grown narrower over the last eight years.

Even though practicing Christians were still found to view pornography less frequently than non-Christians, the gap between the two groups was only 14 percentage points. Some 54% of Christians reported viewing pornography compared with 68% of non-Christians. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Biden’s remark came in response to a comedian at a recent Trump rally in Madison Square Garden who compared Puerto Rico to an “island of garbage.” The Trump campaign said that comment does not reflect Mr. Trump’s views.

But in a call with a Latino advocacy group, President Biden had this to say: “Well let me tell you something I don’t know the Puerto Rico that I know, or Puerto Rico where I’m, in my home state of Delaware, they’re good, decent, honorable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters. His demonization is unconscionable.” [ Source (Read More…) ]
